Temple Guidelines

Sri Mahabaleshwar Temple is a sacred place of worship. Devotees are requested to follow the guidelines below and cooperate with the temple staff and priests to maintain sanctity, cleanliness, and a peaceful atmosphere.

Traditional Dress Code

Appropriate traditional dress is required for entering the temple:

  • Men: Lungi and Shalya must be worn. Pants and half-pants are strictly not permitted.
  • Women: Saree or Churidhar must be worn.
Age Exemption: The dress code does not apply to children below 3 years of age.

Maintain Silence

  • Maintain complete silence within the temple premises to preserve the peaceful atmosphere.
  • Devotees are requested to silently chant God's name in their mind.
  • Loud chanting of prayers or mantras is strictly prohibited inside temple halls and sanctum areas.

Queue Discipline & Conduct

  • Follow the queue system during darshan hours.
  • Be polite, humble, and courteous towards temple staff and priests.
  • Complete darshan without unnecessary delay, especially during crowded periods, to allow the next devotee to proceed.
  • Follow all instructions given by temple authorities.

Mobile Usage Prohibited

  • Switch off mobile phones before entering the temple premises.
  • Mobile phone usage is strictly prohibited in designated areas and inner halls.

Photography & Videography Prohibited

  • Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the temple premises.
  • Taking photos or recording videos is treated as a punishable offence.

Maintain Cleanliness

  • Devotees are requested to help keep the temple premises clean at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the temple compound.

Vehicle Parking Prohibited in Front Area

  • Parking of vehicles directly in front of temple entrance gates and pathway corridors is prohibited.
  • Devotees must park their vehicles at designated temple parking areas.

Special Darshan & VIP Protocol

Special Darshan Categories:

Indian Army personnel, senior citizens above 70 years of age, persons with disabilities, and mothers carrying babies below one year of age are eligible for special darshan upon producing valid documents.

VIP & Special Guest Protocol:

VIPs, VVIPs and special guests are provided arrangements according to protocol rules. Prior information and registration are required, along with identity proof at the temple office or an advance official notice.

Seva Registration Guidelines

  • Seva receipts are valid only for the number of devotees specified on the receipt.
  • An additional charge of ₹100 applies for each accompanying person beyond the permitted number.
  • Sevas have fixed time slots and restrictions and should be registered in advance.
  • For Rudranushthanas and special Sevas, devotees should contact the authorized Archakas of the temple.

Exit Guidelines & Drinking Water Facilities

  • Drinking Water: Clean drinking water facilities are provided within designated areas of the temple premises.
  • Exit Directions: Devotees are requested to follow designated exit doors and pathway corridors after completing darshan to avoid overcrowding.

Office / Enquiry Assistance

  • The temple has an Office / Enquiry area for devotees who need assistance or have enquiries regarding temple activities and services.
  • Devotees are requested to contact the office patiently in case of any inconvenience or for assistance during their visit.
  • Suggestions from devotees are also welcomed.

Guidelines Inside the Garbhagudi

Devotees entering the Garbhagudi are requested to maintain silence and follow traditional practices. The following actions are strictly prohibited inside the Garbhagudi:

  • Consuming Teertha-Prasada
  • Sprinkling water on the head
  • Touching one's head to the Peetha
  • Performing Sashtanga Namaskara (prostration)
  • Loudly chanting prayers or mantras

The temple may experience heavy crowds, and space and facilities may be limited. Devotees are requested to cooperate with temple staff and priests, remain patient, and help maintain the sanctity and peaceful atmosphere of this sacred place.
